I haven’t been able to make much time this Halloween season for my usual go-all-out DIY costume. Home renovations, day job and illness have been taking up my free time these past couple of months. So when Halloween snuck up on me, I didn’t have a costume prepared at all. I turned to my closet to see what I already owned that I could turn into something creative.
I had this blue polka dot dress from ASOS that I had worn for another piece I have yet to finish creating (read: you’ll see this dress again). I did not have a white apron, but Amazon Prime came to the rescue with an inexpensive $12 apron and 2-day delivery. I know I sound like an Amazon Prime ad, but alas, they are not paying me. (I am however, using affiliate links in this post.) You can shop all the pieces below.
I pulled my costume accessory bin out of the garage and found a couple of different options for the tights – one pair with aces and spades I wore last year for my Queen of Hearts costume, and this pair of black and white striped knee highs picked up on post-Halloween clearance several years ago. I already owned a black bow headband, but I wanted a more exaggerated bow for my Alice, so I grabbed a scrap of black fabric out of my remnants pile and crafted a no-sew bow using this tutorial. Pinterest for the win again.

After putting the look together I decided she was missing something. An accessory maybe? I had the clock prop but it really went more with the White Rabbit than Alice, so Stella stepped up to play dress-up with me, and eventually gave up on throwing off the ears after the 206th try. Those were also a $10 Amazon Prime find. Stella’s bow is made from a scrap of red fabric and and a piece of elastic, using the same tutorial I made my headband with.

After all of that, I didn’t even end up wearing the costume to any parties. Florida apparently still thinks its summer, and after 30 minutes in the back yard getting these pictures I realized I was coming down with something that felt like the flu and should probably just go to bed. Hopefully, next Halloween won’t be so crazy and I can get back to my regularly scheduled costume madness. Happy November!
